Pam HOlland,

This mother needs to see a competent breast specialist NOW. If she chooses
to go to a civilian provider, CHAMPUS insurance (which she automatically has
as a spouse of an active duty member) will cover most of it. However, even if
she has to pay up front, this sounds like a very dangerous emergency to me. I
suggest she write down the whole story and SEND IT to the doctor with a copy
going to someone else, maybe her LC or you. Don't rely on the verbal
description of what she's experienced. If a doctor (miliary or civilian)
received a written report carefully describing what you've posted, I bet the
response would be different. There are channels within the military health
system that can be used - post me privately if you want to discuss this
further.

Linda Smith, Dayton OH who has had good results several times by sending
written descriptions of a problem ahead of the appointment.
