Barbara, here's some other "mastitis" stories (Mastitis refers to ANY
inflammation of any part of the breast, even though most of us commonly use
the term "mastitis" incorrectly to refer only to a bacterial infection of the
breast):

1. Mom had mysteriously itchy, prickly nipples, sudden onset. Nursing a
toddler well over a year old. No visible signs on the nipple or baby, no
signs of infection, no history of yeast risk factors, etc. Had me stumped
till we talked at length about when it started: one hot day after cleaning
out closets. Seems she had been rearranging storage boxes in her attic, which
had blown-in fibreglas insulation, got hot, and took off her t-shirt. Wasn't
wearing a bra. The fibreglas caused the nipple irritation.

2. Another mom developed hives on her nipple while her baby was taking
penicillin. She was allergic to the medication, traces of which were still in
the baby's mouth when he nursed.

3. My friend Shirley leaned over to stir a pot on the back burner and burned
the tip of one nipple on a still-hot front burner. Imperceptible blister, but
LOTS of pain!

Linda Smith, collector of wierd stories and hoping you all are getting
PICTURES of these!
