Those of you who posted about the negative respnses you get when talking
about co-sleeping-remember that a lot of this stuff falls under the "urban
legend" heading. Also instead of getting hooked emotionally into the
negative, remember the positive and express your thoughts, right then and
there, instead of letting the "non-believers" dampen your spirits. One
prenatal WIC mom said, oh but you should never sleep with your baby, because
when I did it, I heard my baby choking at my breast". My first gut reaction
was a sinking feeling, but in a split second, I realized that this was
actually a POSITIVE springboard for me to use, I quickly responded,"but since
the baby was with you, you HEARD the choking and you were able to help your
baby." The stunned silence was on the OTHER end, everyone nodded their
heads, and we proceeded in a positive way. The mother who thought her baby
was a pillow, I personally find it very hard to believe that she could have
thrown it down and killed it...but in any case, was that mother
breastfeeding? There are always people out there who want to 'prove'
something, like the other post about a nursery nurse shutting up the
breastfeeding baby with a bottle....We can't let ourselves get hooked into
this stuff....
