Hi Elisa,

I have seven children. I don't think that there is one nursing relationship
in which I did not have mastitis. But what stands out is the number of
times I had mastitis with my first. I would say at least 6 to 7 times. I
was never told by my doctor to wean due to this. I do remember that I did
do many of the things that cause breast infections with the first one. I
was under lots of stress due to my mother being terminally ill. I was
running around doing a lot of things, and I did not catch the infections
when they were simply clogged ducts.

It seems to me that the woman's doctor is unwilling to investigate this
further in terms of other medicines to clear up the infection and to find
information that would help the woman prevent infections through better
breastfeeding management.

From the history that you write, it strikes me that the Erthromycin was
effective and not Keflix. The woman's mastitis came back very quickly,
except after the Erthromycin. Note the dates.

I have to use Erthromycin most times due to
allergies to other drugs. When I do, I just bear with the nauseousness.
However, there is a new form of Erthromycin that does not cause
nauseousness. I was given this recently and suffered no nauseousness. It
was called here Rulide (sp?). (The doctor's handwritting on the
prescription is not clear and to this day, I can't read it.) I do not know
whether this is available in the States. I am aware that it is available in
other countries.

Hope this helps.
