Well, you know that my English is very bad, but I will try to explain this
issue of World Breastfeeding Week's dates. So, please, be patient :)

As I'm WABA's coordinator in Brazil and I take part in the provisional
coordination of WABA International, I hope to be able to answer this question.

Last year, we had a WABA International meeting in Chicago (after the LLLI
Meeting) and we discuss if its possible all countries commomorate the World
Breastfeeding Week in august.

In Europe since some years ago (I don't know how long), the people already
have the WBW in october and other country as India don't want the WBW in
august for their season, I don't know why. But there is, yet, lots of
countries that have the WBW in august.

So, in the WABA's meeting we decided that the World Breastfeeding Week it
will be always, oficially, in 1-7 august, but each country could commemorate
when is the best for their conditions.

In Brazil, for example, we are very organized and we did a "plebiscite" by
mail and fax (with around 1.000 people envolved in the WBW) and we decided
to continue the WBW in August, because, in spite of it's not a good date (it
rain in some places, it is very could another and its vacances in the
school) we think that we don't have to forget the significance of the date
(1st august is the birthday of "Innocenti Declaration").

I don't like that there isn't a really WORLD breastfeeding Week, but I
understand that for some countries is difficult to mobilize people in august.
