Jeannette - my understanding of a shunt is that the shunt goes from the
brain to the abdominal cavity to empty the fluid that would normally have
been drained into the body system via little channels (that aren't there in
the hydrocephalic baby). In the abdominal cavity it is absorbed into the
body's system. Since it is not extra fluid or connected to bowel or
bladder, it shouldn't make any difference in baby's output. Happy Holiday. Pat
