Hi. I see lots of yeast in my moms, especially in those with allergies in
the Spring and Fall. Of course, Summer presents its own problems with warm,
moist places. I have lots of docs that refuse to believe yeast can exist in
the breast and that thrush can be present without white spots in baby's
mouth. Many of these docs also will not prescribe Diflucan when Nystatin
doesn't work (which, IMO, is too often). These moms are desperate and often
in a lot of pain, with nowhere to turn. One thing I have found to be very
helpful is Acidophilus capsules. You need strong dosage ones (because they
need relief fast), usually at 5 billion microorganisms per capsule. These
babies without spots have gas, latch on and off frequently, and sometimes
have diaper rashes. For mom, I have her take 4 capsules right away, then 4
at bedtime the first and sometimes second days. Then, they take 2 after each
meal and two at bedtime. The longer it stays in GI system, like at night,
the better. For baby, they open capsule, mix with water to make a paste,
"paint" the inside of mouth with a Q-tip and let baby swallow. Within 24-48
hours, wonderful relief, 3-4 days GONE. Some continue one or two capsules a
day to keep yeast away. Can't harm them or overdose. Many of my moms who
"didn't have yeast" according to their docs, miraculously feel better when
we treat them for such.
