Subject: overheard at ILCA conf.

My 17 year old daughter, Mika Rubin, found some other teenagers to hang
around with during the conference, they spent most of their time in the
lobby, playing cards ,etc. . I walk by and overhear Joanne Huggins saying to
Mika "my mom breastfed me for three and a half years" , Mika answers " my
mom breastfed me for 3 1/2 years too".

Can I tell you that I swooned??

Evi,

That was Joanna WIGGINS. She and Mika got along great! They plan to
correspond. By the way, they also met Jeanette Panchula's son, Alex, who
thought up the C.O.L.I.C. Club (Children of Lactation Consultants.) They,
along with my son, John, and a couple others, stayed up VERY late every
night in the lobby playing cards and listening to music. Next year, it
would be nice to have SOMETHING for the teenagers to do other than "hanging
out" in a hotel lobby. But they still had fun. (They were spoiled last year
at Scottsdale where there was a special room for teens where there were
movies, ping pong, pool, etc. )

Yes, Evi, teenagers who were breastfed for a long time are special. I have
had very little problems with rebellion and we are a very close family.
But, they ARE independent as heck!

Joanna was so impressed with Katherine Dettwyler's session, (she went on my
exhibitor pass) and with the ad hoc session on politics that she now wants
to be a lobbyist for breastfeeding and has already talked with Barbara
Heiser with NABA about helping her! Since she is majoring in speech and
theatre, and already a "breastfeeding nut", she would be a natural.
