Since Janice and Mary have brought up the subject of ADHD/ADD, I
thought some of you might be interested in a brief article that
appeared in our newspaper earlier this month.
Here are some quotes from the report:
"Boys with low blood levels of essential omega-3 fatty acids have a
greater tendency toward behavior, learning and health problems --
consistent with ADHD, Purdue University researchers report."
"Researchers tested levels of omega-3 and omega-6, the other fatty
acid, in 96 boys, ages 6 - 12, including 53 with ADHD."
"Children with lower omega-6 levels had significantly more colds and
health-related problems than those with higher levels, but they did not
exhibit more behavorial problems."
"The study was published in a recent edition of Physiology and
Behavior."
As you know, human milk contains DHA (omega-3) and ARA (omega-6) and
current U.S. formulas do not. If anyone has access to a copy of the
study, I'd love to see it and/or hear your comments.
Looking forward to the ILCA Conference,
