I was no mail for three weeks while I away on vacations so I miseed the posts
about alfalfa. Wanted to share that when my first was born 19 years ago I
kept telling people that when I ate alfalfa sprouts - I had been a
vegetarian and ate lots of things on my salads, the sprouts being one of them
- that my milk supply seemed to increase. Now I didn't actually need it to
because I was producing tons of milk anyway from nursing on both sides every
feeding. I'd say now that it was an oversupply problem. I leaked for 8 or
10 months before things started calming down. But I definitely noticed the
effect of the alfalfa sprouts. I tried to talk about it with a few people
but no one was interested or they just thought..... who knows?
No one mentioned the possiblity of the mothers having diabetes with the
delayed onset. In Illinois nine or ten years ago I remember hearing from
several mothers at a bfg conference in the session on diabetes and bfg that
their milk took forever to come in. Eight to ten days no matter how soon and
how often the baby was put to the breast. Of course, you would think that
these mothers being discussed on Lactnet would know if they had diabetes or
at least gestational diabetes if they were just pregnant and having blood
sugars checked. So, it may not be a factor here but just wanted to mention
it.
