Your assertion that breastfed infants absorb iron from breastmilk better
when there are no other foods given is supported by research.  Frank Oski
found that even innocuous baby foods like strained pears decreased iron
absorbtion from human milk, and the Italian study published in the
Journal of Pediatrics last fall showed NO anemia in exclusively breastfed
infants who started solids AFTER 7 months of age, whereas there was a
significant risk in those who began solids at the normally recommended 6
months.  I posted all these references in the past, anyone who was not on
Lactnet then can look in the archives.
