If mother and baby both have HSV1, what is the problem with the baby
continuing to nurse? Genital herpes is usually caused by HSV2, though 1
can infect the genitals as well. The trick is to use scrupulous
handwashing, and make sure that dad or mom do not have manual or oral
contact with the nipples and then genitals to avoid transmission.
Breastfeeding is not the issue here, education of the parents to avoid
spreading this virus to other parts of the body, or to dad, is.
