Hi all,

I have a mom with a 3 1/2 wk old who has caused splits at the base of her
nipples bilaterally. He also has had several small suck blisters in the
middle of his upper lip. I have worked with the mom on positioning which the
mom says she can sometimes get him on without causing pain. She also let the
worst side rest X2 days with the healing negated as soo as she put him back
to breast. Her nipple is not severely damaged but hurts mostly when she has
pressure from her clothes.

So besides the emphasis on proper positioning, taking child off ASAP for
biting or pain and repositioning, frequent feeds, breast shields, EBM and
lanolin for pain relief the mom is asking if there is an antibiotic cream
that she could use. As most of them are petrolatum based, I said I would
check it out. Does anyone use any antibiotic creams for this? Any other
ideas or suggestions anyone?

TIA
