Hi, all: At a talk I just gave to health care professionals (there were
actually 5 physicians there, I was really excited!), one pediatrician
asked a question which had me scratching my head. As I discussed the
options that moms who return to paid work have including pumping and even
giving abm while away from baby if not able to pump at work, this
pediatrician asked what was the minimum frequency of nursing needed to
maintain the same composition of the milk. In other words, since the
sodium content is known to increase during weaning, he was wondering if
the milk of a mother who nurses only a couple of times a day would have a
significantly different composition like the milk of the involuting
breast. Any thoughts, comments and/or references are welcome. TIA,
Alicia. [log in to unmask]
