I've been reading a great variety of treatments you each have developed for sore
nipples. I'm wondering if you have a protocol for them: Is there a group of us
who is interested in developing one?
Cause: Abrasions due to incorrect positioning
Treatment: Correct positioning
Apply breast milk
Apply Lansinoh or Pure Lan
But - when do you go to the antibacterial or steroidal creams -
which ones?
Cause: Thrush (visible in baby's mouth or mom's nipple)
Treatment: 1) Gentian Violet (rarely used here)
2) Nystatin ointment / drops applied to mom and baby's mouth
3) Diflucan if no improvement in 2 - 3 days or
if repeat treatments are necessary or
if sore nipples accompanied by deep breast pain
Cause: Uncorrected tongue-tie (we have a lot of these here)
1) Correct positioning as much as possible
2) Lansinoh or Pure Lan
3) Pray she'll agree to intervention (I know that isn't a
protocol step but it is in mine!)
Cause: Unknown
Which tests to run???
Thanks!
