Cindy, about your baby whose weight gain was minimal when SNS use was
decreased but who was only getting 6 ounces prior to decreasing.

I had a mom one time who just had the hardest time getting the baby off the
SNS while keeping up weight gains yet the volume of supplement did not
explain the higher weight gain while on the SNS.

We figured the SNS kept the baby's interest. I taught the mom to use the
SNS to entice the baby to the breast, as well as to increase the flow when
his suckling efforts decreased to kind of wake him up again but to use
minimal or zero flow in between. Eventually he was only taking one or two
ounces a day but he needed those in order to maintain his weight gain for
several more weeks. Finally he did get off and continued to gain weight.
He just wouldn't sustain suckling when flow decreased to elicit another let
down for a long time there.
