Arly and all,

This is me, the LC with the mother adopting a baby from Russia. Could be 3
months down the road. Now i'm leaning toward her waiting to pump until
after the baby is in the US.

THe problem with prolonged pumping is that of drop of Milk supply. In this
case she was not pregnant (was 6 yrs ago), so is building it up form zilch.
She thinks she can make a lot because it took her 5-6 years to stop being
able to squeeze a drop from her breast since she nursed her previous child.

THe emphasis should be on nurturing the baby and when the focus is on
making milk which it must be when one wants to pump for even 3 months before
baby comes, then there is a set-up for disappoinmtnet perhaps.

Also consider the logistics. She is on the plane for nearly a day : does she
hand pump? SHe gets in Russia, luggage, taxi customs, hotel, adoption agency
or whatever: is this stressful or what. If she had built up much of a
supply, isn't she setting herself up for a mastitis?.

yes, input from someone who has worked with a Mom in this situation is
solicited but I like the stance of use of tube device at breast and maybe
pump at home.
