Lactnetters,
I'm working with a mom, who has had sore open cracked nipples since the first
week of breastfeeding. Her baby is now 3 weeks old. This mom is insulin
dependent diabetic, well controlled. This is her second baby, first one she
has nursed. We've tried everything I can think of: rest sore breast and
pump, baby nurses on the less sore side, warm compresses, lanolin,
bacitracin, breast shells, no thrush symptoms (she says), different
positions. She will be coming in to see me (so far the consults have been on
the phone) I told her she needs to make an appointment to see her Dr. I
also gave her the number of another consultant who has been at this much
longer than I...any other ideas. The soreness is better then it was she says
its just the open areas that are proving to be very slow to heal.

TIA
