Well, I am the one who posted about the Ross booklet. I have a few
comments regarding what Kathy had to say. I have been very dissappointed
in several of the publishings previously done by Ross which actually give
bad, misleading advice regarding breastfeeding. These other publications
are always insinuating that you will be supplementing with ABM at one time
or another, and that breastfeeding is time consuming, difficult, etc. You
indicated that you think this booklet does these things as well. Far far
far!! ;) be it from me to defend any ABM company (ask anyone who knows me
IRL- I am a zealot...) but I cannot think of even one breastfeeding book
that I own (I own about 16 of them) that *doesn't* present all of the
problems you may encounter during the early weeks of nursing. The booklet
I am referring to was copyright Feb. 1996, so I don't know if this is the
same booklet, but I really can't see any of the negativity! I mean this
booklet even mentions that women can feed triplets and maybe even
quads!!!! It never mentions going back to work and using ABM to
supplement or anything! Oh well, I guess I am just a little suprised that
a list of problems you might encounter (which as I said, is in ALL of my
breastfeeding books-- even Womanly Art!) would be reason enough to think
Ross was being underhanded. As I said in my last post, I realize that this
company has EVERYTHING to gain by the failure of women to breastfeed their
babies, but the info in it was sure better than the more mainstream "What
to Expect" series, yet they certainly have no reason to see women not
succeed. I am very interested in any other comments. As I said, this book
is being handed out to all bf mothers at our hospital! Thanks for your
comment s Kathy A!!
