Dear 1100 of my closest friends (typed that as "closet" and decided that
wasn't quite true -- I don't consider you closet friends at all)... (This
isn't about bf -- it is a TANgent, so skip if you want....)

I am celebrating my "wise woman" status today, and thought I'd let you all
know that I have finally reached that marvelous age when I can be comfortable
with who I am, and so you can celebrate with me! And hopefully, 1/2 century
marks me as wise as well....

My family is out buying ingredients to cook dinner for me -- that was what I
wanted instead of going out to dinner. (I think they would have all
preferred taking me out...) It should be interesting, as my only request was
"no cottage cheese" (nasty stuff), and Torrey was NOT to make tomato soup.
She's the only soul I know that can follow the directions on the back of a
can of Campbell's tomato soup and have it turn out dreadful. Oh, and none of
them can cook, except for Tim (age 12), who does a passable job on some
things. I'm anticipating Hamburger helper, frozen corn and a cake from the
Jewel. At least I'm not cooking!

One of my gifts is that I am to go out and buy a purple dress, because you
see, "When I am an Old Woman, I shall wear purple...." So, you may see me at
the next ILCA conference in purple, and you will know why. I can't wait!

Timothy plans to be a surgeon, and figures it will take him about 20 years to
start making any money, so he has told me that when I am 70, he will buy me a
purple Mustang convertible. I'm excited about it!

Now let's see if the accumulated wisdom of the years will translate into
being a better LC....I certainly hope so! (Torrey just came in with two owl
bookmarks!! :) )

I think being 50 is going to be wonderful!!

Jan Barger, who at 50, is determined to enjoy life to the fullest...and that
means I'm going to spend an afternoon at Barnes & Noble hiding anti-bf books,
and reading Lucy Maud Montgomery, my favorite young adult author!
