Fellow Lactionists ha ha...
I am planning a presentation for our neonatologists on 9/18 re: why cup
feeding should be our preferred method for supplementation (when necessary) vs. bottle feed.(Our Chief, Dr. W. wants me to "scientifically" prove nipple confusion exists, and that cup feeding is better than bottles). I think I've got the goods for nipple confusion and for bottlefeeding causing decreased tidal volume, hypercarbia, apnea, bradycardia, etc. But I need to know if anyone out there knows of studies done on cup feeding - actual statistics of increased successful breastfeeding of preterms after using cup feeds rather than bottles, and minute ventilation, tidal volume, oxygen saturations during cup feeding.
This info would be very helpful in promoting cup feeds in our NICU .
I appreciate your input very much -
