I've had a persistent, quarter-sized rash on my wrist for maybe 2 mo now.
Tried lansinoh. No good. Over-the-counter cortisone. No good. OTC
antibiotic. No good.
But, hey, I don't read the Journal of Human Lactation for nothing. "20
cases of persistent sore nipples: collaboration between LC and
dermatologist" (Huggins & Billon, JHL 9(3): 155-60, 1993) describes many
cases of the dermatologist prescribing a topical *combination* of
anti-inflammatory and antibiotic.
I mixed my cortisone and antibiotic together. The rash was just about
clear in 12-24 hr. There's no doubt that it worked. But *why*?
