Anna,
I think we would be more concerned with the infants of the mothers who quit
bf, rather than teach the infant the skills he needed to bf well.  I have seen
a few breastfed toddlers with problems eating solids, when I referred them to
an OT, she felt they were more family dynamics/power struggle issues than oral
motor dysfunction or sensory disturbances.  I have kept in touch with some of
my clients who had infants with very difficult suck problems which were
overcome, these kids are up to 8 years old and are doing fine in every area of
life- school, eating, motor skills, etc.  I have heard from some moms who quit
a few years ago, and they are less happy with their children's health and
development, though there is nothing glaring for most.
This is one of the issues I wish we had hard data on.
