To all:
I think all the tools of the trade must be used with caution, however having
introduced cupfeeding to my post partum and Nursery dept. has reduced the
incidence of bottling to a minimum, not because thy're all being cup fed but
the nurses are taking a step back and not electing to supplement as quickly.
Rather than cup feed a baby I think that they're finding it easier to try
the breast one more time. Before it was all too easy to put a bottle of
formula in the mouth of any baby, now they will teach parents not only cup
feeding but finger etc. realizing it can be a parentral responsibility. I
have seen several babies lose their suck by over use of not only cup
feeding, but bottling, Lactation device or finger feeding. Use but do not
abuse, that's my motto. And as everyone else is saying ---get them back to
the breast.
