I wish that breastfeeding education and participation in further learning opportunities
like conferences on breastfeeding would be attended more by OBs, Peds and anyone who
deals with infants, children and breastfeeding families. Sometimes I think hospitals
send their RN and expect them to provide staff with education and this is overwhelming
and sometimes impossible to do with some doctors. I am just one who believes that if
there was more participation in educating and remaining current by docs in relation to
breastfeeding we would see a considerable increase in our breastfeeding population. May
even need to insist that docs attend at least something in person every so often to get
some started. While I realize this may be too time consuming for some, it is their
responsibility to become educated and keep current about breastfeeding and lactation in
order to provide optimal care for their patients and hospitals they represent.
