One of the reasons that I stay involved as a La Leche League Leader,
even now that my sons are grown (almost 19 and starting college and
almost 23 and out of college and on his own), is that I feel that I can
give a long term perspective to new mothers. The other Leaders in the
LLL Group with which I lead have kids who are younger. I can add the
voice of experience, having nursed my children to 3-1/2 and 4-1/4, and
having practiced what was at that time not yet called "Attachment
Parenting". I have been there, done that, and am coming out the other
side. My experience of having gone through this and seeing what
healthy, independent, caring young adults resulted can be very
reassuring, I think, to a new mother who is getting a lot of questioning
from those around her or even from her own inner self.

Alice Ziring in Washington State, looking forward to having those two
young adults return on Thursday from a five week trip by themselves
overseas. After the TWA disaster, I will be very happy to have them
back on the ground here!
