I am looking for some information on a drug called Imitrex (sumatriptan). I understand that it is fairly new, about two years old, and is prescribed for migraines.
The mother of a ten month old baby has been advised to take this drug intramuscularly as needed, and to avoid nursing her baby for at least 12 hrs afterwards. The baby nurses frequently and takes some solids.
I understand that the half-life is 2.5hrs when given orally, but have not been able to discover what it is when given by injection. I would assume that it is less. In any case, I don't know why the doc said to wait so long. Dr. Hale?
