A mother who has been put on the following drugs to lose weight; she is
morbidly obese and still nursing a 2 year old. MDs consider her weight to
be life threatening.

Drugs being prescribed are: Fenfluramine (Pondimin) 20mg 3x/daily

                                Phentermine hcl 15 mg once/day

MD prescribed after telling the mother to wean before taking.

Questions:

a) do they get into the milk? at what level(s)?

b) would their presence in the milk pose a danger to a 2 year old? She does
nurse with a high frequency (not just once/twice a day, "lick and promise"
style)

c) What about the interactive effect of both drugs together?

d) Anything else we should be alert to?

Please reply ASAP if you have information I can share with the LC who has
raised these questions. Many thanks in advance.

Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
