Good  Sunday Morning!!
 I just got off a 12 hr night shift and have a problem I need help with
before I go back tonight. The mom I'm dealing with is nursing her 4th baby
and claims she has had severe pain breastfeeding all of her children. She
gave up after 4 mos. because she "couldn't take it anymore"  I commend her
for not throwing in the towel this time and she is determined to try again.
The baby appears to be latched on correctly, with a little help from me.  She
was a c/s and needed help with positioning and was very nauseated as well.
The infant's lips were flanged, a check of the tongue showed it to be curled
correctly underneath, body in correct alignment, and nose and chin touching
the breast., During the feed the mom c/o pain and so I got her off and the
nipple was flattened. Several trys did not bring any improvement in the shape
of the nipple. The breast didn't seem to have much elasticity, so could that
be the problem?  If it is should I suggest pumping to stretch  them out? I'm
stumped by this one and would love some advise from one of the many experts
out there. This poor woman is miserable and I would like to help her go home
successful and have a wonderful nursing experence.
