In *Shape* magazine's *Fit Pregnancy* I found an advertisement for this
product. It is freeze-dried Bifidobacteria infantis in a powdered form.
It says in summary breastfed babies have a lower incidence of colic and
other digestive disturbances than bottle-fed babies. This is attributed
to friendly microorganisms whose growth is intensified by mothers milk...
babies intestinal flora is unstable... Bifidobacteria will inhibit
colonization of intestines by  invading disease-causing
bacteria...andassists in the absorption of calcium and other vitamins and
minerals...
If this has been previously discussed I apologize for the repetition, but
I have never seen or heard of this before. The ad says for breastfed
babies too but my impression is this product is geared more towards
formula fed babies. "Use this product and your formula-fed baby's
intestional flora will provide the same protection as a breastfed baby"--
again, my impression. Does anyone know anything about this product??

Another little article in the same magazine says a small study (19
subjects in Australia) found that 2-3 weeks after mother's of firstborns
weaned their  breastfed babies, they experienced less fatigue and a
better mood. Three to four weeks after weaning, the mothers reported an
increase in sexual activity. Carnation also has a full page formula ad.
