Hi All,
Pam, you are so lucky to work where you do! I wish our WIC staff was as
go-get-em for BF as yours sounds! How did you ever get people to get gung-ho
about BF? Our WIC, sadly, sees BF as a pain and more work to do. Where is
your Health Dept?
About the WIC BF vouchers, I agree...Who thought up these particular items?
And yes, they are culturally insensitive. Quite frankly, I loved the tuna,
but the beans annoyed me. :) I don't think I ever got any! I like the idea
of cutting the BF moms a check for a comparable $$ amount, that would be
about $75-$80 here in Sacramento, and believe me, there were times when I
didn't need that much milk and cheese (couldn't eat it anyway 'cause baby was
allergic) and would have loved to get some good bread or a nice piece of
chicken or a healthy portion of fresh fruits and veggies instead!
Maybe, prob'ly not, but maybe someday things will get a bit better for the
WIC program and for those who have to work with resistant people.
