You can easily make an adjustable sling without any cutting or sewing whatsoever!
Buy 2 yds of 45" wide closely-woven fabric. Tie the two short ends together in a *loose* square (granny) knot - right hand over left hand, then left hand over right hand - so that the knot lies flat. Put the sling around your neck and push one arm through to see if the length needs to be adjusted. When you are satisfied, take off the sling and tighten the knot to make it secure. Wear the sling so that the knot is in front of your shoulder.
While this sling may not be as fashionable as some, it serves the same purpose, and has the advantage of being a fraction of the cost. In fact, you can afford to have several, to coordinate with you own clothes!
