At the recent Physicians Seminar of the LaLeche League (7/18-20/96) research
was presented which demonstrated that co-sleeping reduces the risk of SIDS.
Mother's breathing movements provide constant stimulation of the baby, and
both sleep very well even though baby may feed several times a night (all
research dyads were breastfeeding, of course). When I get to the office
tomorrow, I'll look up the researcher's name and provide it to you all.
Sleeping with baby is very natural (why my husband and I have a queen size
bed) and for cultures outside the U.S., it's the only way to go.
