I think this can vary, depending on the type of reaction, etc. In my own
experience, my first baby was very colicky in general and had extra bad
reactions from me eating chocolate or even cocoa-flavoured foods. I
estimated that it was 30 hours between me eating the offending food and his
extra severe colic reaction. It seemed to take this long to be absorbed in
me, get into my milk, and go through his system to his bowel, before the
reaction. However, most people report a shorter time than this - like the
next day after something they ate for evening meal.
Does this mum normally eat broccoli? It is more likely to cause a reaction
if it is a food she does not normally eat. The common one I hear is curry
or other spicy food in mums who don't normally eat these sorts of foods. I
guess she could test it out by waiting a while and then eating some again,
to see if baby has a reaction again.
