Hi from Rochester,MN,
I have been talking with one of the other lactation consultants here in
Rochester and with our midwives about a surge of mothers complaining about
yeast on the breast. The question is what are you all doing for these
mothers while they are on antibiotic therapy for mastitis & etc. We have all
taken the approach in the past few months of having the mothers use a
topical cream inconjunction with the antibiotic. But even with that we seem
to be having many mothers calling in after both treatments have stopped with
deep breast pain and pain in the nipple. They don't describe the nipple pain
as burning but the pain in the breast is suspicious of yeast.
We also seem to be having many more calls with mastitis as the complaint. I
would appreciate any comments.
Thanks,
Cheryl
