Names were named on Watchdog Health Check, a consumer TV
programme in UK. They claim that Cow and Gate and Milupa have
admittted their abms are involved. Again no mention of breastfeeding
on the programme - vox pops with parents saying they have no
altenative etc, Labour politicians baying for informed choice, etc. I
phoned and pointed out that 30,000 babies are hospitalised in UK
every year with gastro-enteritis because they are not breastfed for
over 13 weeks - I am sure the guy on the phone thought I was nuts.
We will see if they get back to me.
Meanwhile, how about a letter writing campaign to MPs, remembering
we are coming up to a General Election? I was thinking of thanking
Labour for their concern for mothers and babies, and praising them for
wanting full information for mothers. Tell them how good it is to see
politicians wanting to put babies health before commercial interests.
THEN asking that they pledge to implement the WHO Code in full to
ensure that every mother has the chance to make a fully informed
decision about how to feed her baby, free from commercial pressures.
Worth a try?
