Judi, in the wake of media coverage on "Mad Cow Disease," the US television
show "Prime Time" ran a story March 27 on CSF. Featured was author Hillary
Johnson who has written a book, "Osler's Web", which (some say) will be
compared to Randy Shilt's work ("And The Band Played On") which chronicled
the ways in which government and health officials initially ignored AIDS.
The report suggested that CSF has been categorized as a somatic illness,
indicative of depression, and has not been taken seriously by either public
health officials or those who fund research. The report mentioned some
evidence (I wasn't watching with full attention--so I'm vague here!) of a
relationship between CSF and the encepholopathies of (for instance)
Creutzfeldt-Jacob Disease. Since Ms. Johnson is on a book tour you-- we --
will likely see more of her. Info about this and other aspects of CSF can be
viewed at http://www.alternatives.com/cfs-news/cfs-news.htm. (Where I
finally located the info--I spent all afternoon thinking: "Where did I see
that news story???")
