Hi. I'm new to Lactnet and I'm fascinated! I'm an IBCLC and have been using
herbs in my private practice for about a year. Alfalfa is great for
increasing milk supply, but one caution: do not use for preemies or jaundice
babies. It can increase the bili level. A midwife once said at a conference
"take 8 alfalfas and call me in the morning!" It can help that quickly. An
alternative (I've never used fenugreek, I haven't heard about this use until
lately) is Blessed Thistle, Chlorophyll or Red Raspberry. They all work well.
For those of you taking the exam- it really isn't so bad. Most of the slides
are very familiar- found in lots of great resources we all use. I even knew
some of the answers before seeing the slide, because the questions are so
straight foward. Two years ago when I took the exam in Williamsburg, VA,
after lunch (right before the slides) there came up a terrible thunderstorm.
We were near an exit and could see the lightening through the cracks between
the doors. The lights flashed on and off during the slides. I hate storms!!
I don't know how I could concentrate!! Maybe they felt sorry for us and
that's why I passed!?! Good luck!
