Hi All,
I know I mentioned this before, but after the mom who needs info for her Dr
about BF and pregnancy (I'm doing that now, and not the least bit worried), I
feel the need to mention this again.
(Caps for emphasis)
WHY should WE supply references to support what we know to be true. WHY do
the MOMS need to prove to their Drs that BF is NOT a pathological type of
thing but a NATURE thing.
Isn't it TIME that the Dr start giving US and MOMS references that support
their (sometimes silly, sometimes very wrong, and sometimes correct) advice?
Most of the Drs I know have NO CLUE about the normalcy of BF, and give moms
the most outrageous advice! Things like "Don't offer the breast when baby is
upset, you'll cause eating disorders and obesity. Don't BF at night after 15
mo, or at all after 15 mo, you'll cause the baby to have dental caries.
 Don't BF while pregnant, you'll cause a miscarriage." etc,etc.
I think it is TIME that WE start demanding that the medical establishment
start handing US and MOMS studies and articles from "reputable" journals and
researchers that back up their "advice". If we ALL start expecting them to
be on the defensive, rather than us, and provide the info, then maybe they
will stop giving out such silly advice! It is time for US to be on the
offensive here folks, (in a nice way of course). We have been defending
ourselves for too long, not only from the medical establishment, but also
from family and friends who have been influenced by the Med Estab and the ABM
companies. We know what is OK and what is Not OK. We have the studies, and
the experience. We have the knowledge they lack, and yet we are still trying
to prove ourselves.
What do the rest of you think? We are now trying to change our manner of
speaking by putting BF as the norm and ABM feeding as the abnorm, this is one
more step for us to take, don't you think?
