Becky K. asks if the pitocin is causing delays in lactogenesis. It is
artificial oxytocin -- a hormone connected with milk delivery. I would
suspect a different mechanism in the delays in milk coming in and in
subsequent low supply. The clue is in her comment about the heavy bleeds
during deliv. (thus the need for more pit. pp). There have been lots of
observations in the lit. about ischemia and anemia and delayed or depressed
lactogenesis. Back we go again to the primary cause of so many bfg.
problems: birth practices which don't respect women's needs, bodies, and
biologies.
