Could your client's baby have lactose overload by just skimming off the top
of the breastmilk every 1 hour? Is the baby real fussy? Could be only taking
the foremilk. I've had several like this and when more letdowns were
elicited on the first side (or in this case the preferred side) and other
means of comfort used to get the baby to go a little longer between feeds,
there was a dramatic difference in baby's disposition within 24 hours. I had
one 17 y/o mom who thinks that I walk on water because of this advice and
nursed for 16 months.(Thanks to Michael Woolridge for his work in this area.)
Don't have much to offer on getting the baby to take the unpreferred side
except that it's OK. If a Mom can have enough for twins, she can have enough
on one side. Pumping on the other may help.
