Dear Diana,

What a headache to have to confront the daycare place! So much emotion
involved to have to take a stand and have "bad feelings" with the folks
you are entrusting your child's care to. (Yes, I too leave my young ones
a few days/week.) I agree with what's been said about breastmilk not
being dangerous, but I'm sure that fear of HIV or other disease is what's
fueling this new ruling. (Everytime the media mentions AIDS/HIV vectors,
breastmilk is one of them!) Perhaps their attorney or insurance company
is behind it.

Perhaps a short-term solution would be an appeal to reason if you
"promise" to use one of those new Pl--sch--l brand non-spill cups. Not
making an endorsement but in my experience they do deliver on the no
spill or drip promise. This would certainly be better than those drippy
(pouring!) nipples that come on bottles!

Sincerely,

Meg Wright, PA-C
