Hi All,
Have a client with very fussy twins. I mean VERY FUSSY! (emphsis, not
shouting:) )
They are about 2 months old now and have been crying since the day they were
born, stopping only for minutes a day and when sleeping.
Both babies are very gassy, and act as if they are in pain. Finally talked
the mom into taking all dairy out of her diet and using soy ABM instead of
regular (irregular?) (She has only one breast and has not been able to make
em\nough milk to fully BF both babies) , though she was very hesitant to do
so. It seems to have helped a bit. But, now she got some "words of wisdom"
(NOT) from her Peds PA. Since the babies spit up and have a very slow wt.
gain (.3-.5 oz per day) she told mom to put 2 tsp of rice cereal in 2 oz of
ABM!!! For every feed!!! AAACCKKK!!! Like these poor kids don't have
enough sore tummys to deal with! I tried to tell her that the info was cr-p
(said more appropriately to the mom of course) but she says to me "Well, you
know, she is the PA, she has medical training, you don't have that." "Yes,"
I say, "But I have a solid background and education in BF and infant
nutrition. What is and isn't good for babies. The PA's info is outdated and
could cause your babies to be a lot more uncomfortable than they already are.
Talk to my supervisor if you are not sure about my info."
We'll see what happens. I can't believe that people still think that giving
babies stuff they aren't ready for will be good for them, and that heavier
feeds will result in less spitting up! Results in messier spit ups, not
less!
Jay
Things just don't change, so they?
