Bonita Douglas and others,

The Formula Free Baby Fair (which are usually Free Formula Baby Fairs) was
great, but I can understand your frustration about the HEALTH department
employee who expressed disappointment over not having formula companies
represented because "all women do not want to breastfeed.."!! This is an
issue that pushes my buttons! After all, a HEALTH department implies GOOD
HEALTH, right?? We have a HEALTH department near where I live in VA. that
will not allow posters of breastfeeding moms because it might make the
bottle feeders feel guilty. And they hand out a sheet of paper with a few
advantages AND the DISADVANTAGES OF BREASTFEEDING!! I AM NOT KIDDING AND YES
I AM SHOUTING! I am convinced that the guilt some HEALTH department
employees feel (who didn't nurse their own children) colors their thinking.

What is the answer? Will things ever change? Will breastfeeding ever be
the norm? Will we EVER be able to compete with formula companies?
Inquiring Lactnetter minds want to know. NOW.
