Jan,
I have seen post-thrush dermatitis in mothers who have been treated with
nystatin. They responded well to a topical corticosteroid prescribed by our
friendly family doc.
For the totally refusing baby: has mom tried laying on her back, and
putting baby prone with her head between mom's breasts? I had one adamant
non-nurser who screamed, but continually self-attached until she was
comfortably nursing by the second day. It was interesting to watch her little
head bobbing up and down to get to the nipple. Admittedly, this tx is tough
on the mom (hearing all that crying), but since the infant is not being forced
into doing anything, and it is her own instincts guiding her, it should not
increase the aversion.
        Good luck with these toughies.
