One of my coworkers (a male engineer from Jamaica) told me that
women nurse openly there, and nobody notices. Breasts are simply
not considered sexual. The leg, however, is. Women cover their
legs, and men become excited when they see a woman's leg. Even
after living in the States for 12 years, my friend becomes excited
when a woman's leg is exposed. His conclusion (and mine) is that
what is hidden becomes sexual precisely because it is hidden.
For BFing to become the norm, the breast must not be hidden.
Women who are comfortable BFing openly should do so, and their
breasts should be seen doing their wonderful job! The more people
see women BFing openly, the more they will realize that BFing is
inherently a pure, wholesome process. When, however, women hide
their breasts when they breastfeed, they are telling people that THEY
believe their breasts SHOULD be hidden. IMHO, this spreads the
message that breasts are sexual, and tends to inhibit BFing in society.

will attract no more attention than a bare-chested man
