Hi! My name is Caren Goldstein. I am anRNC, IBCLC working in a level II SCN
and well baby nursery. I have asthma which is treated with Proventil and
Vanceril and occasionally a week or so of Prednisone and Brethine. I nursed
my son who is now 22 months old for 13 months and I had no difficulty with my
milk supply even the week or so on Prednisone starting at 40mg and tapering
every three days. My pediatrician was not concerned about the asthma meds
while nursing, nor was my Pulmonary Drs. I was not taking the medications
with my first child ( a daughter now 5). I had an abundant milk supply with
both children. I do not think my son noticed a difference when I was taking
steroids. Also since I went back to work at 7 weeks postpartum and had to
pump I never noticed a decrease in the amount of milk I was able to express.
I hope this is of some use.
