Fellow Lactenetters

My name is Laura Roy I am the lactation educator for the NeoNatal Intensive
Care Unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas Texas.

I have really enjoyed reading all of the information you all share. This
time I need help.

I have just been diagnosed with malignant MS. They say I have a very poor
prognosis. Will probably not see my baby's 2nd birthday. He is seven months
old now. I am current breastfeeding. He has never had ABM and this is
something I am very proud of considering I work full time.

They are starting me on high dose IV steroids (solu-medrol 1 gm) qd x3 then
will follow up with Prednisone 60 mg a day po. The literature I have gives
conflicting information. Facts and Comparesons suggests I stop breast
feeding. Drugs in Pregnancy and Lactation suggests it is safe to continue
nursing. Honestly, I am overwhelmed by the entire situation. Breastfeeding
is our special time together. I'm not ready to wean. Had planned to nurse
him for 18 months. If there is anyone out there with experience in
corticosteriod use and breastfeeding could you please e-mail me at
