I'd like to go out on a limb and express my distress with some of the
Disney posts.
It seems as if the majority of posts are now focusing on being able to
nurse children at Disneyland/Disneyworld. My understanding is that this
never was an issue - many women have posted about breastfeeding at
the park with no problems, I don't recall that anyone has posted about
being asked to stop nursing. Nursing in public does not seem to be the
issue.
The real issue, as I recall, was that Disney has a relationship with Nestle
- selling their products within the park, and also Nestle promotions tied to
the selling of Disney products.
Instead of a nurse-in at the park, wouldn't more appropriate action be to
boycott Disney entirely - * do not buy Disney products and do not
patronize Disneyland/world*. Then, write a letter to the company and
explain why. Would it be as easy for us to give up Disney as it is to give
up Nestle?
I believe that before we take more radical action, we should first make
the effort to educate the Disney corporation about the business
practices of their associates, and hear their response. I'm sure that most
of them do not know that Nestle is in violation of the WHO Breastfeeding
Code. The next question will be, do they care?
Off soapbox,
Debi
