You are so right, the US version of the WHO Baby-Friendly Hospital
Initiative is called the "Breast Feeding Health Initiative", using the same
intials. It is a watered down version and makes subtle but substantial
changes to the WHO BFHI. Watch out for it, this is not what we as
breastfeeding advocates want in the long run. The US interpretation is only
a half measure, not truely "Baby-Friendly", and leaves the door open for the
ABM industry to continue to have it's way with our mothers and infants. If
anyone wants to see both for comparison I can email them to you. I received
my info in October 1995 from Cindy Smith, editor of Breastfeeding Abstracts.
